Survivors’ pension calculator
Estimate the amount of surviving spouse’s pension
When the surviving spouse’s pension is calculated, the surviving spouse’s earnings-related pension amount is also taken into account. The calculator helps you to estimate how much your surviving spouse’s pension would be. The national pension paid by Kela or voluntary pensions do not affect the size of the survivors’ pension.

How is the amount of surviving spouse’s pension calculated?
The amount of surviving spouse’s pension is impacted by the amount of earnings-related pension the surviving spouse receives. If the surviving spouse’s earnings-related pension is large, it is possible that no surviving spouse’s pension will be paid.
Example of reducing the surviving spouse’s pension
The amount of surviving spouse’s pension is €800/month, basis for reduction *€779, amount of surviving spouse’s earnings-related pension €900/month.
Surviving spouse’s earnings-related pension €900/month
Basis for the reduction -779
Excess 121
Half of excess 60,5
Paid surviving spouse’s pension is 800 - 60,5 = €739.5/month.
*the basis for the reduction means the limit amount confirmed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health annually. In 2023, this amount is EUR 779.
